Introduction from Relieving Principal

Dear Members of the Parramatta Marist Community,

I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself. As you were made aware from Greg Whitby’s letter last month, Br Patrick has taken leave for the duration of 2017 and I was asked to take the reins in his absence.

I have been working in Catholic Education for over 20 years across numerous dioceses in various roles. I was educated by the Marist Brothers before working in the Canberra Goulburn diocese in a coeducational school. I then worked at Marist Canberra and St Stanislaus Bathurst over a period of 13 years before accepting a position at St Gregory’s College. I have had varied roles including House Dean, Head of Senior Boarding, Acting Deputy Headmaster, Director of Boarding, Deputy Headmaster and most recently Acting Headmaster.

I have been married for 23 years to Margie and we have two children Mollie (20) and Daniel (16).

When I was asked to come to Parramatta Marist I was excited as I have heard so many good things about the school. My own personal dealings with students and staff at events including Marist Oratory, debating and Thursday sport have always been positive. I must say my welcome from staff late last term was a little overwhelming and only vindicated my decision to accept the role.

Be assured that I have the best interest of your son(s). It is important that your son(s) are part of an environment where they can continue to grow into the fine young men they wish to be. I know that they are very well supported academically and importantly personally and spirituality at Marist and I will be a part of this network.

I know that the higher the bar we set for our young men, the higher they will jump. I will focus on ensuring those high standards that are expected will be continued.

I look forward to meeting you over the coming months at various school events. You are all warmly encouraged to attend as many of these as you can.

Warm regards,

Matthew Brennan
