Mathematics

The Mathematics Department at Parramatta Marist High School exists as an integral element in the organisation of the school which strives to offer a Christian education to the students who attend.

 

As such, the teachers in the Mathematics Department aim to do their part in imparting this Christian instruction through their Mathematics teaching and through their attitudes and conduct towards their students at all times. These attitudes are reflected in:

Organisation

Year 7 and 8

The classes are graded according to demonstrated ability. Continual monitoring of individual performance takes place to ensure that boys are placed in a class which best suits them. Classes are graded. As in Year 7, continual monitoring takes place to ensure that boys are studying at the appropriate level.

Year 9

Classes are graded with students attempting levels of work ranging from the basic course 5.1 through to the more advance 5.3 course. The progress of the student is followed closely to ensure that the appropriate students take the various courses.

Year 10

Classes are graded as in Year 9.

Year 11 (HSC Preliminary Course)

Three levels of study are offered:

  • Extension 1 (3 unit)
  • Mathematics (2 unit)
  • General

Year 12 (HSC Course)

Four levels of study are offered:

  • Extension 2 (4 unit)
  • Extension 1 (3 unit)
  • Mathematics (2 unit)
  • General

Students at Parramatta Marist have performed with distinction in both the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate examinations of the past few years. We are confident that this trend will continue in the future.
