Languages Other Than English
In the footsteps of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, Parramatta Marist High School students now learn French in Year 8. The language is taught with a communicative approach focusing on reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
Project Based Learning in French ensures that whilst learning the basics of this beautiful, global language steeped in history and culture, students also further develop their collaboration, presentation and team-working skills. The real-world focus of our French projects enables students to envisage how they might also use their language skills in the future. Many students also find that learning a new language actually helps them with their understanding of the English language too.
The school has a wide range of resources for the teaching of French including:
- A well equipped learning centre
- An IT room with French software and internet access
- A wide range of educational DVDs and authentic videos
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.
